Duties and Responsibilities of the Automotive Engineer

 

Automotive engineers develop design and improve vehicle-related mechanisms. This involves using AutoCAD software to develop ideas, test components with different methods and principles, and collaborate with colleagues on designs. Automotive engineers are often tasked with finding new ways to improve electrical components, circuits, software, and the car's body. This work is often done in an office, but field work may be required for further study. Automotive engineers work independently sometimes, as tasks are delegated and as part of a team on more collaborative project tasks and reports. This job is suitable for people who are technical and analytical, have good problem solving skills, and can use software to develop projects.

 

Duties and responsibilities of the automotive engineer

Production of drawings

With AutoCAD, automotive engineers create, develop, and produce designs that can be turned into prototypes. They decide on the most suitable materials for each component and integrate them into their plans.

Solve engineering problems

Using mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, thermodynamic, and pneumatic principles, automotive engineers solve engineering problems and investigate any mechanical failure.

Prototyping

Automotive engineers are responsible for building prototypes of different components to test their performance before production and make sure they meet safety standards. They can also be expected to analyze vehicle performance to determine what the customer is looking for and find ways to better meet the mandate.

Inspection of the installation of mechanical systems.

To meet safety and performance standards, automotive engineers inspect the installation of mechanical systems and adjust as needed. They also monitor their colleagues during component installation to make sure they are mounted correctly.
